I strongly believe in forgiving each other. I think to forgive is very important in our lives for many reasons. One of them is because Jesus commands us to forgive. Jesus says in the Bible, ‘’Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you’’- Ephesians 4:32. Through this verse of the Bible, we can see how important it is to forgive because as God forgave us we forgive the offenses of our brothers, and by doing so, we are fulfilling his commandment. There are many more verses that emphasize the importance of forgiveness. For example, in one occasion Jesus said a parable about a king who settled an account with a servant. To paraphrase the account in Matthew 18:23, the king asked the servant to return the money that he gave to the servant as an investment. The servant could not and was about to be sentenced to enslavement. The servant cried mercy and the king forgave him. That same servant then went out and demanded money from someone who owed him. That person could not pay and he had him cast into prison. The king heard about this and was enraged. He then had the servant cast into prison. The king was angered because the servant could not show pity as he showed pity to the servant. So also “My heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.’’ Therefore, one could say you have to forgive because you were forgiven.
Forgiveness is essential to enjoy a fuller life because it brings you peace and happiness. By forgiving, you are able to let go of all those negative emotions like revenge, anger and pride that take the tranquility out of you and make you live a more stressful life. It also helps you to be more open to know new people and have better friendships because the lack of forgiveness makes you be an isolated person. When somebody offends you, you become distrustful and that can produce bitterness and resentment.
Forgiveness also brings you a sane conscience, and as a result a good mental health. Studies have shown how forgiveness can improve your mental and physical health. For example, A 2005 study published in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine showed that forgiveness is associated with a range of health measures, including the quality of sleep and fatigue. In addition, studies have also shown that forgiveness has positive effects on lowering blood pressure. For example, when a person that was offended forgives the other person, both experience a decrease of stress and a pressure regularization.
In conclusion, I think we should apply the forgiveness to our daily life because of all the benefits that it brings us. Through forgiveness we are going to know more about God and also it will improve our mental and physical health. So always remember to forgive to have a happier life and live better.
