My father is the oldest of 7 siblings. He lived most of his childhood in extreme poverty in a country fighting a civil war, which lasted more than 20 years. He had to face economic and social difficulties, but his desire to succeed was always greater than his difficulties.

Despite the lack of opportunities and resources, he managed to get a university degree with great effort, and with the same tenacity, he managed to get a job. For many years, he devoted himself to doing his job, learning and trying to be the best at what he did. Because of this, he was always an outstanding employee, achieving many personal recognitions and many opportunities for labor improvements.

I want to talk about the two people who have influenced me. They are my parents. They have taught me about values, like respect, love, friendship, family, and responsibility. These teachings have helped me build my personality. I have transmitted these concepts to my kids to help them become better people. I hope my kids will contribute something good to this world. My parents have influenced me to be the person I am today, so I am a good mom, a good friend, and a good person. I have tried to teach my kids the same things.

Did you believe in Santa when you were a child? I did too. My aunt Lucy was Santa Claus every year for me and other kids, and I was so proud about this that only I had an aunt like her and she was my Santa. Aunt Lucy was so funny. With her, I felt light-hearted and safe. All kids need somebody who loves them without any reason.

With her I could be myself. We sang songs all day and played without worrying about time. For example, we traveled on train for seven days and it was awesome for me. I was seven years old and for me, it was like a big adventure. We went to new places and met new people every day.

There are so many people in this world who have given a helping hand to the poor, to the homeless, even to animals, but there is one particular person who has inspired me the most. She is a famous celebrity: Oprah Winfrey. She is also a successful TV show host in America. In 2001, I followed my husband to Dubai. At that time, I had nothing to do but stay in the house and watch TV all the time. But one day there was a TV show that caught my attention. Soon I felt my heart become attached to it. My English was not good enough to understand every word, but I was still able to understand what she was talking about.

My father Sid Estrada is a fantastic and awesome person. He has never said anything wrong to anybody, and he always tries to help people. When I was a little child, he taught me to do many good things. For example, he taught me to always be honest. He also taught me to be a nice and friendly person. Most importantly, he taught me to fight for what I want. He has always been the perfect father to me.

My cousin Andrea is one of the most influential people in my life. When I came to this country, I met her for the first time. Since I met her, there has been a connection between us. She invited me to live with her, and I said yes. This was one of the greatest decisions I made, because I saw how wonderful she was inside and out. I was a very pessimistic and self-centered person. She taught me how to be a positive person, but not only with words, but with actions. She used to say that if you have a good attitude, it can help you to have a good day, because every morning when you wake up, it is your decision if you want to have a good or bad day. All this has to do with you. You may not change the bad things that happen around you, but you have peace in your heart. Andrea usually says to be a thankful person, say thank you to God for all the gifts that come from him.

The person who has influenced me every day for the last 14 years is my husband! He has encouraged me to grow in my life, to study, to work, and he has made me a better person. He has taken care of me and given me all the necessary support to learn new things, to discover new ways of seeing life, and to face the problems that can happen daily. When my mom had a stroke in Brazil in March, my husband stopped work and stayed at home here in USA with my daughters so I could go to Brazil to stay with my mom.

My grandmother Eusa has been a big influence on me. Since I was born, she has been the one who has taken care of me and taught me how to become a good person. Eusa is kind, even-tempered, open-minded, and helpful. She is an amazing person. Whenever I need to talk to someone, she is the first one I talk to, and she is always there for me. She loves helping people, and I have this characteristic, too. This is a big characteristic that I have from her.

Martha is the name of my mother. She's the most kind and beautiful person that I've ever met in my life. I've chosen my mom as the person who has had the most influence on me and my life because she taught me values, how to do the right things, how to overcome my troubles in a wise way, and be kind and respectful even when I don't want to.

He was a prominent leader and very popular. He has been loved and hated at the same time. Whenever he arrived, he shocked crowds. But despite his fame, he remained humble. He had an extraordinary wisdom, without pretensions or problems of ego, and his legacy has influenced important people around the world, people who make a difference. That’s one of the reasons I have been interested in following his teachings.
